The Container Recycling Fee

The Container Recycling Fee (CRF) is a fee charged to beverage producers in Manitoba for each beverage container they sell. These include glass and plastic bottles, cans, cartons and juice boxes, containing non-dairy and non-alcoholic products. The main purpose of the CRF is to help Manitoba achieve its goal of a 75% recovery-for-recycling rate of used beverage containers.

The CRF contributes to at home and away-from-home recycling across the province, including the recycling bins that Recycle Everywhere provides free of charge to municipal, institutional, commercial, industrial and event-related public spaces across Manitoba. This means you can recycle your used beverage containers no matter where you are. The CRF also funds promotional and educational activities.

The CRF is charged only to beverage producers. In Manitoba, these producers typically pass on the cost to retailers, who in turn charge it to consumers. The CRF is shown on most store receipts, and is consistent across Manitoba. By paying the CRF with each purchase, you make it possible to transform empty beverage containers into something useful.
